Snapchat's biggest update ever.
"Today we’re separating the social from the media and reorganizing Snapchat around your relationships to make it more personal."
At an earnings call earlier this month, Evan Spiegel announced a major redesign was coming to Snapchat. This morning he published a video describing the update, and it's Snapchat's biggest release yet. Here are the highlights:
✅ New Discover feed with #brand content
✅ Friends are sorted algorithmically (blasphemy!)
✅ Adult-friendly UX
Snap is rolling out these updates to a percentage of their 150M+ daily users so if you don't see it yet, don't worry. Evan hasn't forgotten you.

Today we have special guests: Venmo founder Andrew Kortina and Facebook's former Product VP Sam Lessin are launching Fin, and are here to tell us about the future of intelligent assistant systems.

It seems like in the last few years everyone has been working on some sort of assistant service. Siri can be great for cooking timers and placing phone calls, but we are a far cry from having the assistant we have been promised by movies like Her, Blade Runner, and Iron Man.
For the last few years, Andrew and I have been working on a different approach, combining machine learning and human operations to deliver a full human-equivalent assistant service. That is Fin's premise.
The product can make purchases on your behalf, book reservations, manage calendars, and take care of natural and sophisticated research and organization tasks for you. It learns your preferences, just like a human assistant would – from your choice of airline seats, to more personal things like the type of restaurants and hotels you prefer.
We've learned a ton in the past year, and wanted to share some of the key lessons that have given us more confidence than ever that in the near future, most work will be performed by human + software hybrid systems.

It has been almost two months since I quit visiting Facebook. I still post photos from my Instagram and occasional notes via Buffer, but if there is anything I miss it is publishing random musings, which are too small for a blog post and too long to be a tweet.
A friend suggested, why don’t you collect all your thoughts and post it as a blog post? And today seemed like a perfect day to start doing this. It is a little grey, rainy and chilly in San Francisco — and for once I have just two meetings during the working day. I have made my favorite tea, and I am sitting in my apartment — just musing about various things.
• Bear: I ended up buying Bear because it is so pretty and I am a sucker for indie apps. The app is everything I like about a note taking app: pure, the ability to do a lot more styling if needed and ability to sync across all of my devices. Sure, it costs $14 a year, but I don’t mind paying because the app makes it easy to get on with it.
• BBEdit: how can an app be so amazing and awesome after so many years? The newest paid upgrade of BBEdit still makes it one of my favorites. It does cost a pretty penny!
• Firefox Quantum Browser: This is a great new addition to a growing landscape of browsers. I am enjoying it more than Chrome. I have replaced Google search with Duck Go Go and stopped all sorts of tracking on the web with it. I absolutely love the Pocket integration. Trust me, you want to download this and get back into the Firefox camp.
• Twitter Apps: I spent $20 on Twitterrific, and I don’t quite get what the fuss is all about. Sure, I get the threaded conversations, but that isn’t a top priority for me. TweetBot is equally as good and I don’t mind the Twitter app either. I much prefer Twitter in the private window of Safari/other browsers.

Microsoft-acquired Wunderlist NOT dead! ✅🎉
In 2015 Microsoft went on a shopping, acquiring the best productivity apps and discarding the remains. RIP community favs:
• Sunrise
• Acompli
• Wunderlist (not dead)
We were prepared for Acompli's untimely demise. Mailbox suffered a similar fate and we had an excellent list of alternatives.
Sunrise shutting down was harder to take. A collection of well intended Sunrise alternatives was prepared, but it became clear that Sunrise would never be forgotten or replaced.
Then there was Wunderlist. The cloud-based task management app was the pride of Berlin tech. It was beautifully designed and loved by its fans. In April, it was announced that Wunderlist would be shutting down in favor of Microsoft To-Do, a new app by the Wunderlist team. We were optimistic, but had a list of 68 Wunderlist Alternatives ready.
Today, six months later, and Wunderlist is still here, alive and well! We dug deep into the interwebs and found a response from a Wunderlist customer support representative:
"We don’t have a date for closing Wunderlist’s service yet, so you can continue to use it for now, even though we recommend everyone to also check out Microsoft To-Do." – Marcel, 9/11/2017

Tesla launches Supercar and all-electric Semi ⚡️
At last night's Tesla Semi truck unveiling, Elon Musk had a surprise up his sleeve: a new version of the original sports car Tesla made in 2008.
The new Tesla Roadster is the fastest production car ever made. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds, has a top speed of over 250 mph, and a massive 620-mile battery range. Watch the video.
The star of the show was Tesla's electric truck. Tesla Semi gets 500 miles of range, has 4 motors, and enhanced autopilot as standard. With a drag coefficient of just 0.36, it is more aerodynamic than a $2.7M Bugatti Chiron. The truck's cockpit looks like the inside of a spaceship.
Tesla really overdelivered with the Semi, and turned the Roadster into a supercar that gives gasoline cars "a hardcore smackdown", as Elon Musk said. And yet... the #1 comment on the Tesla Semi page poses a question that remains to be answered. 🕳🤔
