NEW: Y Combinator Startup School 🎓
or over a decade, Y Combinator has been one of the most influential forces in the startup community. Without it, reddit, Airbnb, Dropbox, and hundreds of other startups may not exist.

Today, YC introduced Startup School, a 10-week massively open online course (MOOC) to teach you how to start a startup. While helpful for the industry, Startup School isn’t a “charity”. They’re cleverly expanding their platform further down the funnel, to educate and identify tomorrow’s great companies. Well played. 😊

The 28 most loved product launches from Feb 💚🚀
February was full of big launches. Boston Dynamics showed off a robot with wheels that hops, Amazon launched a Hangouts competitor, Google fixed Hangouts in response, and Airbnb launched the month's most upvoted product.

Other popular launches include: a site for finding the best Chrome extensions, an app for overcoming social anxiety, an equity calculator for figuring out the value of your comp, and a public email address where people to pay you for a response.

Check out the Best of February and Best of January collections to see more great products launched in 2017 so far. 🏆🚀
Happy Snapchat IPO Day 👻📈🎉
Today is the day! For just $17, you too can add "Snapchat investor" to your Twitter bio. People were skeptical at Evan Spiegel's decision to turn down a $3 billion acquisition offer from Facebook in 2013, and now, $SNAP is going public at a $24 billion valuation.

While competitive pressures rise (👋, Instagram!), Evan and team have continued to innovate in surprising ways. They made QR codes socially acceptable. They face hardware that, unlike Google Glass, people actually use. And their Stories format has become a familiar UI pattern, inspiring WhatsApp, Facebook, and just yesterday, Medium launched its own “stories”. 💚

Check out Jack Dweck's Inspired by Stories collection.

YouTube takes on cable providers with a $35/month TV service!
YouTube just announced YouTube TV: a $35/month live TV streaming service that takes on cable providers directly. Stream ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC & more, never run out of DVR storage space, and link 6 accounts all for the price of one. Unlike Comcast, you can easily cancel anytime.

Why is this significant? YouTube recently announced that video views now surpass 1 billion hours per day (and growing), compared to collective TV viewership of 1.25 billion hours per day (and dropping).

Expect to see more and more products added to this TV Apps for Cord-Cutters collection and the popularity of services like HBO Now, Hulu, and the entire Netflix ecosystem thriving.

Key startup takeaway from the Oscars 🌝💡
The big winner of the 89th Academy Awards was La La Land, taking home 6 Oscars, and briefly winning Best Picture (there was a mixup). That honor ended up going to Moonlight, a deserving winner.

What you can learn from Moonlight's win: It is absolutely critical to name your startup after cross-platform emoji. Think of: 🏠🎉🍑👻, 🐐🧀 — these are all app names you can communicate with simple emoji on iOS, Android, Twitter, and Gmail. As such, congrats to all those involved with the 🌝💡 win. Honorable mention to 🦁 and 👽🌍.

Now, get started with a productive week by browsing some of these:

How to raise money from your users 💰
If you've ever wanted to invest in a startup, only to find out that you have to be super rich just to get started, there's good news: In 2016 the law changed! Title III of the JOBS Act now allows for equity crowdfunding. This means that everyone (not just the "accredited") can now invest in the next Uber, Snapchat, or hot GIF-making startup. 🔥

Platforms like Kickstarter have been helping companies find early backers as a form of "rewards-based" crowdfunding. But now, new crowdfunding platforms like Republic and WeFunder are letting startups raise money from the public in exchange for equity in the company.

Here are 4 startups currently raising equity crowdfunding on Republic:
FlipWord: Integrate learning a new language into your browsing 🌐
• Pearachute: Drop into the best kids classes in your city 🤗
• SkillMil: Precision hiring for veterans to get into corporate life 👔
• Ellison Eyewear: A lifetime membership for sunglasses 🕶
