New in this update: Live Events and Circles. Check into major live events (sport, concerts, festivals, markets) up to 24 hours before kickoff to see who’s going, start a chat, and meet with a better crowd. Circles lets you create small, local meetups in your neighbourhood—coffee walks, pub trivia, gym sessions, co-working, or weekend hangs. Real people, real plans, right where you are. Plus, you can still check into everyday venues and discover who’s nearby and open to connecting in the moment!

I’m Niel, founder of Checkin (building solo out of Sydney).
This is our second launch, and it’s a proper step forward. Checkin started as a way to meet people in real time at local venues. Today we’ve added two big pieces that make it work for both spontaneous moments and planned social life:
1) Live Events (new)
You can now check into major live events such as sport, concerts, festivals, markets and more - up to 24 hours before the event.
You’ll see people who’ve chosen to check in (not everyone who bought a ticket), so you can connect before you arrive and walk in with a better crowd.

2) Circles (new)
Circles are small, neighbourhood-based meetups you can create or join.
Think: coffee walk, pub trivia, post-gym chat, co-working session, Sunday market lap.
Not big event planning. Just simple local hangs that are easy to say yes to.
And the original core still matters
You can still check into everyday places (bars, cafés, gyms, museums, hotels) and see who’s nearby and open to meeting.
Why I built this
Most social apps are built to keep you hooked behind a screen, and a lot of them push everything toward dating. People are tired of it. Checkin is different. It’s designed to get you outside and exploring. It’s not a dating app- what happens when you meet someone is up to you. No scrolling through thousands of profiles. Just real people who choose to show up, in real places, in real time.
What’s next for Checkin
Checkin has two pillars: People and Places. We’ve built the engine that helps people connect. Now we’re going deeper on the Places side; because every good conversation needs a home. We’re building tools for venues to share what’s on, offers, and moments worth checking into, so the app becomes more alive and useful every time you open it.
