Eyecon - Auto pause video when you look away

by•
Eyecon pauses the video when you stop looking at the screen, and starts it again when you look back. Someone talks to you. You reach for something. You fall asleep. The video keeps playing, you miss a few minutes, and then you drag the progress bar around hunting for the spot where you left off. Eyecon removes that whole loop. The front camera checks one thing: whether your eyes are on the screen. When they are not, Eyecon sends a pause to whatever app is playing.

Eyecon is a fully offline mobile app that requires only a one-time purchase. There are no ads, account requirements, subscriptions, or separate Pro features. Once you buy it, everything is yours.

Eyecon doesn't support vertical videos, but it works with horizontal videos in any app that provides media playback controls. It also includes rewind and sleep mode features.

Interesting stuff! Does it work with all kinds of video streaming services on your phone? (Including web browser videos)

Yes, but the app needs to provide media playback controls. You know the media player section in the notification panel, where you can pause, resume, rewind, or skip forward? That's what Eyecon needs to work. It doesn't work with videos like Shorts or Reels.

Does it keep the data from you? I mean it films you constantly?
GL for the launch

Your data stays on your phone, and camera usage has been optimized. I've optimized battery consumption as much as possible without compromising performance. The camera only uses enough image quality to track whether you're looking at the screen. You can turn the feature on or off whenever you want. As I mentioned, the app has no internet access, and everything happens entirely on your device.

Such a fun idea! Just what I needed for my dinnertime YouTube sesh.

Curious: what sort of permissions does the app require to make this work?

Unfortunately, the app does require some permissions, including camera access and permission to run in the background. However, it has no internet access permission. I designed it this way to protect your privacy and give you peace of mind. Everything happens locally on your phone and stays there.

Battery consumption has also been optimized.

fair enough, you answered my follow-up question too! All the best, Yunus.

I get distracted all the time - I juggle a thousand tasks at once while watching or listening to podcasts or TV shows. I’m afraid this isn’t for me)

You can choose which apps you want Eyecon to work with. The sleep mode is also really useful. Sometimes you fall asleep while watching a long video or movie on your phone, and it just keeps playing while you're asleep. Eyecon solves that problem too.
