I am a content creator, I built a free AI video cropper in 7 days because I was tired of paywalls
I post across TikTok and ins — about 10k followers total — so I'm constantly resizing the same video for different platforms.
Every "free" tool I tried pulled the same moves:
– Sign up before you can even test it
– Watermark slapped on your export
– The one feature you actually need is behind a paywall
– Or it just crops badly and cuts off people's faces
Converting 16:9 to 9:16 shouldn't be this annoying.
So I built Freecropper. Took a week and about $200.
It runs entirely in your browser. No account, no watermark, nothing gets uploaded to some random server. You drop in a video, pick your ratio — 9:16, 4:5, 1:1, 16:9 — and export. Works for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn, whatever.
I threw in face and subject detection too, so vertical crops actually keep people in frame instead of chopping them at the forehead.
I didn't build this to launch a company. I built it because the existing options were irritating me every single week.
If it saves someone else from that moment where you hit export and get hit with a watermark or a payment screen, cool. The $200 paid for itself in saved frustration.
