Do you actually know which of your businesses made money last month?

I run more than one business, and for a long time I could not have told you, with a straight face, exactly which one was profitable in a given month. I had a general feeling, but no real number I trusted, just totals across bank accounts that never told the full story.

If you are running two or more businesses right now, do you actually know this month's numbers by business, or are you working off a general feeling too? What made you either build a real system for it, or decide it was not worth the effort yet?

That's what ERPs do.. but they are for large orgs.. anyways.. try finding ways to track some matrices that can help you trac this.. it not impossible .. many orgs do it via invoice/receivable tracking.. I am unsure of your businesses, so tough to comment with confidence.

  that is exactly the gap, ERPs assume a finance team and a single org chart, not one person running two or three completely different businesses. Invoice and receivable tracking gets you partway, but the owner still ends up doing the cross referencing by hand. I ended up building something closer to a lightweight layer that just tells me which business needs attention and why, no army of dashboards required. Curious what you have seen work for smaller operators who cannot justify a full ERP.
