Future of AI industry - Concentration of players?

by

Hello PHs!!

With every new release, OpenAI is killing many startups and smaller companies. For example, the latest OpenAI Agents will surely make some existing AI agents obsolete...

How do you foresee the future of the industry? Do you think the future of AI is heading toward a concentration of power among big whales like OpenAI, Google, Meta, etc.?

Or do you think there will always be untouched categories where these big corporations won’t venture, allowing smaller companies to emerge?

Curious to know what AI product Makers think!

It’s a valid concern — and yes, the big players will dominate general-purpose infrastructure. But that doesn’t mean the door is closed for smaller AI companies. In fact, I believe we’re entering a phase of intelligent differentiation.

At Growstack, we’ve seen firsthand that the edge isn’t in the LLM itself — it’s in how well you understand and automate specific workflows. The giants build foundational tools. But the real-world value lies in vertical depth, tight integrations, and domain expertise — things the big whales simply can’t scale across every industry.

Just like AWS didn’t stop SaaS, OpenAI won’t stop domain-native AI products. If you're building with focus — and not just riding hype — there's plenty of room to thrive.

The moat now is:

Workflow > Model

Context > Scale

Speed > Size

Big waves create new beaches. The key is knowing where to land.
