The best (and most typical) answer from a designer... "IT DEPENDS" 🤣
For interface design -- I play around with lots of products, and see how the thing works, feels, and looks.
For aesthetics -- I notice what brands standout from the crowd, their visual language, and what emotions it elicits.
For biz ideas -- I consume a lot of content, but mainly its focused on the problems I face, that would be a no-brainer to solve for me and others like me.
For ideas in general -- it's usually during some down time, shower, bike ride, somewhere away from the desk, or some mindless activities like washing the dishes.
How do you get inspired?

X (aka Twitter) has been good for this recently, a lot more designers active there now compared to a few years ago when it felt like everyone was on dribbble. Also muzli is a great extension for inspiration
