Isn't most "Growth Hacking" just doing normal marketing properly?
by•
I keep seeing posts about some secret growth hack that supposedly saved a product, but when you look at what they actually did, it's usually pretty basic stuff.
Answering support messages talking to early users writing useful posts instead of pushing generic promos.
sometimes it feels like calling it a "hack" just makes people look for shortcuts instead of doing the boring work consistently.
has anyone actually found a real growth shortcut, or does it usually just come down to doing the basics really well?

To be honest "hack" is nothing but a way to catch people's attention and considering that the TG is founders and builders desperately looking to get users who pay, the terminology tends to do the trick of getting traction for the "hack". But as you mentioned its nothing but marketing gone to its basics. And its not sometimes but rather intentional calling it a hack because founders and builders who don't have a marketing/sales background would obviously be deprived of the basic concepts so disguising the fundamentals in a hack with proof of concept is quite a creative way for them to discover marketing and faith reinstated in basics of marketing with proof of concept which would obviously be a success story stating how basic marketing is enough as well is get customers.
