New on Product Hunt: Kitty Coin Leaderboard Highlights Highest Scoring Community Members

by

Product Hunt just added a new leaderboard and it finally answers a big question: who’s actually contributing to the platform?

For a long time, Streaks were the main signal of activity on Product Hunt. But streaks only showed who visited every day. Opening the site or app daily doesn’t necessarily mean someone is adding enough value.

That’s where Kitty Coins come in.

Kitty Coins are designed to measure real contribution. Instead of rewarding simple visits, they assign weight to meaningful actions across the platform, such as:

  • Writing reviews

  • Hunting a product

  • Starting forum discussions

  • Writing thoughtful comments

  • Getting verified on the platform

  • Being a maker launching a product

And more...

Each of these activities earns Kitty Coins based on its impact.

Now Product Hunt has introduced a Kitty Coins leaderboard, a new ranking that highlights the members who are truly shaping the community. Unlike streaks, which measure consistency, this leaderboard reflects actual participation and influence. In other words, it’s not about who shows up every day, it’s about who contributes the most value.

The Kitty Coins Leaderboard helps you discover the top 1,000 community members on Product Hunt ranked by Kitty Coins.

If you’re curious, you can explore the leaderboard here: https://www.producthunt.com/kitty-coins?period=all_time

The leaderboard is split into four timeframes: Last Week, Last Month, Last Year, and All Time.

To be honest, I had never really checked my Kitty Coins before. But when I opened the leaderboard and saw my rankings, it genuinely surprised me.

My ranks:

  • Last Week: 9th

  • Last Month: 24th

  • Last Year: 10th

  • All Time: 11th

If you’re among the top 1000 Product Hunt community members, drop your ranks in the comments and share them with the community. I would love to celebrate you and your contributions to the community! :)

I think this is a great new feature, much more interesting than the streaks!

But the numbers in the (all time) leaderboard are a bit different than the one shown in the profiles, why's that?

Suggestion: Show the all time, year, month and week ranks on the profile pages (important especially for people who are not at the top of the list)

@rohanrecommends This is a much better signal than streaks. Rewarding actual contribution over daily logins changes the incentive structure entirely. Streaks encouraged opening the app. Kitty Coins encourage writing real reviews, thoughtful comments, and hunting products that matter. That's a fundamentally different behavior loop.

The timing is great too. With how much the PH community has grown, having a way to surface who's genuinely adding value versus who's just maintaining a login streak helps makers like me find the right people to connect with. When someone with a high Kitty Coin score leaves a comment on your launch, that carries real weight because you know they've been consistently contributing, not just visiting.

Thanks for breaking this down Rohan!

I am highly doubt about this vacuum-cleaner tactics of "posting everything on Product Hunt, even new iOS version, even every Steam game on hype, farming, farming, grinding, grinding" brings real value to PH community. Yup, past legacy is nice, but the prime era is no more (:

Interesting. But I’m not entirely sure I get the idea yet.

Is it meant to show who the most active users are? Or who’s most active in each section? Maybe some kind of leaderboard or competition?

It looks interesting, but I’d love a bit more context on what it’s supposed to be used for.

Interesting to see where I invest most of my time and energy. But most importantly...

We have some usecase for Kitty points! :DDD

Curious how this will evolve - I'm not personally into these kinds of leaderboards, as I feel they put the focus too much on any type of engagement and not on the actual value. I'm sure it's useful for anyone who works to work with a hunter, but other than that, it feels too competition-oriented for my liking 😆
