What did your launch teach you?
I thought our Product Hunt launch would be a test of the product but It turned out to be a test of how well we understood the people we were building for.
Before launch, I was focused on all the things makers usually worry about: the page, the screenshots, the copy, the timing, and whether everything was ready.
Then we launched and The numbers were much quieter than I expected. My first reaction was to look for a technical reason. But after talking to people and looking at the feedback, I realized something I should probably have asked much earlier: Did we actually explain the problem clearly enough for someone to care?
That question changed how I think about launches. A good product page can explain what your product does.
It can't create a reason for someone to need it.
I'm still figuring out the balance between building the product and building the understanding around it.
For other makers: what did your first launch teach you that building the product itself didn't?
