What do you think about higher education, is it necessary these days?

Depends on the domain I would say. Relevant for someone who is interested in highly specialised fields. Also helps you build a solid network

I think that higher education definitely has value, but its necessity is often overstated by companies in the hiring process. So many great candidates coast through university as it's a mandatory pre-requisite and instead focus their energy on learning/developing on the job. Would be great if more hiring moved to a structure that is more equitable and provides opportunity for everyone to showcase their talent and suitability, regardless of their circumstance and ability to have obtained higher education.

In the past, I have thought that higher education was necessary in order to be successful in life. I think that education is necessary for a person to learn how to work and live in a society

Higher education is not about knowledge. It teaches you how to think, to analyze, to communicate. Of course nowadays you can learn anything using online courses or YouTube and get certifications, but it does not give you the connections and network, it does not develop your interpersonal skills. First of all each of us need to know how to communicate and how to make connections, which you can develop in universities.

Important for friends, connections, opportunities, and life experiences you wouldn't otherwise encounter. As far as hard skills, it's very specific to your major. Some yes, some not at all.

For education, no it's not. For interest-related network, yes it is.

Necessary - it shouldn't be. For most topics people actually learn more at work, than they learned in school. If we're talking about people that know what to do, are passionate about a topic, and want to make connections too, sure, go for it. However I would definitely wait if I don't yet know what to do, because people end up with degrees that they're never going to use, done for the sake of having a degree. I'm really happy nowadays we're normalizing self-teachingc certificates & courses that aren't necessarily coming from a university background. ☺️

Yes, most certainly... I think any education should seen from knowledge, information perspective.. So much one gets to learn. Ive seen more people inclined to learn or enroll into higher education as they gain experience. But as a counter argument experience always weighs more than education. So both should be applied together.

From speaking about the viewpoint of technical knowledge, it may not be necessary to learn specific courses that may not be useful in work practices. However, some of the skills can be applied to the profession directly, depending on your job. I think the most important thing about higher education is that it teaches you how to think.
