Recently, we have a discussion about that topic with few friends, I am curious to know what the tech community thinks about this.

I believe that learning is very important in the modern world. But it doesn't have to be a university. But unfortunately, without a higher education diploma, they do not always take a job.
it used to be "it's not what you know, it's who you know" and it still is very much like that
indie devs with no schooling can be just as successful, if they have the right idea and/or team- or a solid leader to partner with
@oaklynking yes, 100% agree with you about relationship building

To my personal view, I feel it's kind of a trend these days. It just adds a degree to your name and everything depends on a person's skill and ability. Agree with one of the people who said: It teaches you how to build connections and how to maintain them.
@sridevi_m thank you, the best about higher education is that it teaches you how to build connections

Hey, Natalia! Thanks! That's a great question!
Like most of the people here, I'm sure that it's necessary as a form of socialization and feather connections, for sure✨
I think that in some careers, especially business-related, higher education as it is known today will not last long.
But higher education still has a key role in our society and there are careers where it will always be there, it will iterate, but it will be there. Careers related to science, medicine, etc You don´t want self-made doctor, don't you?
Like it always happens nothing is white or black.
For me, higher education is valuable because there you can find good people, get connections and learn how to connect with people. On the other hand, teaching methods at some universities aren't the best, the educational base doesn't have a tendency to be regularly updated, so some things are outdated. But if you're sure that you will devote a certain part of your life to this profession, then it makes sense to develop within the framework of this science and contribute to its development.
The importance of Higher Education: 5 Reasons Why
1. The Obvious
2. The Future and AI
3. A Well-Rounded Dynamo
4. Learning How to Think
5. International Education
Huger education can be useful in some areas of work but I think we should all try and improve. Building a new skill set like learning a new language or cooking
