What piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to start building a personal brand?
I can safely say that Product Hunt is the first platform where I managed to achieve a relatively large number of followers as a person.
(It wasn't the plan, because the plan was to focus on the Slovak community on Instagram, and I'm honestly glad it didn't work out.)... Anyway...
The more users the internet/platforms have, the more content they have and the harder it is to stand out.
Do you have any advice for newbies who are just starting out and want to build a personal brand?
This can be meant for platform-specific, but also general advice.
I have these 3:
– Go to the platform where your target audience is certainly (and focus on this one at the beginning)
– Talk about what you love (choose one main topic)
– Interact more than you yapp at the beginning :)

So many great insights here! If I had to add one thing for anyone starting out with a personal brand, it would be: treat it like building a product. Start by figuring out who you want to reach and what you care about, then show up consistently, even if it feels like nobody’s watching at first.
Share your real experiences, not just polished highlights. People remember stories and lessons learned from actual challenges, not just wins. And don’t underestimate the power of genuine interaction. Commenting thoughtfully, helping others, and being part of the community can open more doors than just posting alone.
Most importantly, give yourself permission to experiment and evolve. Your “brand” will shift as you grow, and that’s a good thing. Consistency, authenticity, and being useful are the best foundation anyone can have.

@0xtommythomas I am just thinking... whether it is a good thing to compare it with a product completely. Because many makers I know had to detach from the product (e.g. when they sold off the company/were acquired). With the personal brand it is not like that.

@johny_d Both are equally important! :)
Biggest advice: pick platforms that showcase you and your work, not just your audience size. For creators, brand partnerships are a great way to build a personal brand and monetize. We’re exploring a model where creators auction off ad slots to brands—which can really help smaller voices stand out and own their worth.

@uxyemi When is your launch by the way?
@busmark_w_nika July 29th. Getting YouTube content creators on board is now the hurdle we have to cross.

@uxyemi, I would like to know about some place where they are present, maybe there's a database on Buymeacoffee, Passionfruit, Impact platform, or Billo.
@busmark_w_nika You're right and I'm aware of some of those places but budget is lean so I'm just going organic at the moment.
You have to have an idea you are building a personal brand around, also, you have to be relatable to other people in terms of social status, mindset or energy

@alisher_kabduakhitov I know some people who fake who they are. But we have a saying for that: The lie is short-lived. (or The lie has short legs – In Slovakia)
