What questions do you have about A.I. that you're too embarrassed to ask?

by
Hi all. Sarah here, Head of Content @ Product Hunt. I'm starting up a new article series in our AI newsletter, Deeper Learning, called Ask Kitty. It's a place where you can ask the questions you've been wondering about A.I. but have been too shy to ask. Why? One thing I've learned about A.I. is that a lot of people in tech assume you know a lot of things, and very few people actually know the things (or know them in-depth enough to explain them simply). Sometimes this dynamic prevents us from asking questions. And asking questions is one of the best ways to reduce our knowledge gap. And yes, you could ask ChatGPT, but based on my experience you're unlikely to get the full context you need. Not only will I work to answer your questions, I'll work to find the right people to help me answer them! So ask away!

It's perhaps the moment we have to ask a question that should fit for my question. So, a question requires another tail of questions to set up my specified domain. That's why I guess we need a lesser chain of thought to create my answer. Our team is working on how we can decrease such depth too.

I sometimes wonder whether AI truly ever "understands" us. I believe there's a difference between (1) actually understanding our questions and providing relevant, thoughtful answers, and (2) answering our questions with the most probable answer that would satisfy our inquiry. I feel that ChatGPT (particularly) sometimes acts like that person who only agrees with what you're saying, and tells you what you want to hear. How does AI's ability to learn and understand actually work?

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve and become more integrated into our daily lives, it raises several intriguing questions. For instance, what exactly is AI, and how does it learn to perform complex tasks? Many people wonder about the distinctions between AI, machine learning, and deep learning, and why these differences matter. Moreover, as AI systems become more sophisticated, can they ever truly think or feel like humans? This leads to concerns about trust and safety: is AI safe to use, and how can we ensure it behaves ethically? There’s also the question of impact – how will AI change our daily routines, our jobs, and our society as a whole? Additionally, with the rapid advancement of AI technology, what steps should one take to start learning about AI, and what are some common misconceptions that need to be addressed? Understanding these aspects is crucial for navigating the future of AI.

It's funny but I feel like most people aren't afraid to ask AI anything. We're building a relationship AI app, and couples talk to Maia about everything under the sun relationship-related. Oftentimes the subjects that seem off the table with humans, like sex and intimacy issues or finances, are completely not taboo with AI. It's awesome!!!

I'm curious about the impact of AI on product research, and I've been surveying some product managers and user researchers about it. I'll report the results in July, but in the meantime, if anyone would like to participate in the study - let me know. It's gonna be big!

@sarah_wright7 question I have about A.I. that I am too embarrassed to ask is that "In what way AI dangerous for us in terms of Jobs and privacy, what kind of jobs will be eliminated by the extreme use of AI in our daily or professional life?"

Hi @sarah_wright7 This is such a wonderful initiative! I've always been curious about how AI models like ChatGPT understand and generate human-like text. Could you explain in simple terms how these models learn language and how they decide what to say next? Thanks for creating a space where we can ask these kinds of questions!
