What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from collaborating with others?

The most valuable lesson I've learned is the importance of clear, empathetic communication—it's the glue that holds a team together and turns challenges into learning opportunities. Additionally, embracing diverse perspectives not only enriches the project but also fosters personal growth and innovation.

Even if its their "job", if you want someone to go beyond their comfort zone to get something done - give them an indirect personal agenda to do so.

Don't give orders but suggestions instead. "Make this powerpoint presentation" -> "let's make this powerpoint presentation"

Team work is simple: Tick tick doesn't work, tick tock works.

To collaborate effectively, learn and understand each other's ways of working and how everyone is most productive, communicate often, and keep everyone in the loop on changes, updates, etc.

Respect to others, is the easy thing to forget, but is truly the essential part for building collaboration.

Conflict can be constructive.

In communication, honest feedback is crucial. While flattering words may be easy to come by, timely and candid feedback, grounded in the interests of the company, is essential for its growth. Even if such feedback is often hard to hear, it is necessary for the collaborative success of the enterprise. Additionally, it is important to promptly identify anchors in communication barriers, especially in cross-disciplinary interactions. In such cases, assumptions that you understand something may not be shared by others. It is crucial to recognize what needs immediate clarification, as many listeners may not express their lack of understanding. If the entire conversation proceeds without addressing these points, the outcome is likely to be ineffective.

Not everyone has the same communication style. Eventually you’ll come across a colleague that doesn’t get it because they don’t process information the same way that you do. Being able to envision yourself as the other individual or group and their response to your explanations or solutions can dramatically improve the collaboration effectiveness.
