Why did you lose your Product Hunt streak and what was your record?

@charlie_hb started quite an interesting thread where he outlined on which days people lose their streaks the most often.

He showed some stats regarding days in a week, but I am still lacking the reasons.

The most common ones I have heard were:

  • "I was travelling" (different time zones, so I lost track of time)

  • "It was the weekend." (or holidays)

  • "I lost my motivation."

What was the real reason that you didn't continue, and what was your streak record?

(I also almost lost my streak once because, for a while, the day count only responded to opening PH in the app.)

I lost a bit streak, simple answer is: I was not able to keep up with so many channels as a solo builder and decided to focus on others. Trying to build a new streak now... not sure I can commit to be around daily, so let's see how far I get.

@norteapp Which platform did you prefer before?

@busmark_w_nika X has a nice community of builders, Reddit is gold for my app, and LinkedIn is where I have the most followers. So I spent most time on those.

@norteapp I have it almost like the opposite – LI, X and Reddit (but to be honest, I use this one when I want to have laughter) :D

@busmark_w_nika I am a 43yo grandpa... LinkedIn used to be the thing when I was growing my career 10 years ago. Things change.

I lost my streak this week and it was on 209 The funny thing is I logged in that day and also upvoted products that day. I woke up to 1 the next day. I sent them an email, but they said they couldn't do anything. So I'm out of here for now.

@george_esther Ufff sorry to hear that, not gonna lie, for me it is sometimes hard to remember which day I had yesterday :D

I’ve been active on Product Hunt for 2 years and 3 months, and I’ve only missed 2 days.

The first time was when my wife and I were traveling to another country. With all the check-in stuff and getting settled, I didn’t even realize I hadn’t opened Product Hunt. Back then I was only using it from my computer. Later on I started using it on my phone too, which basically removed that risk.

The second “missed” day wasn’t really a miss. I just messed up the Product Hunt time window. I logged in about an hour before the new Pacific Time day started, and then again a few minutes after the next Pacific Time day had already ended. So in my head I hadn’t missed it, but because of the time zone, the platform counted it as a miss.

At this point, it’s super easy for me to keep my streak going:

1. Have Product Hunt on your phone: this alone removes like 90% of the risk, even if you’re traveling.

2. Turn it into a routine: log in at the same time every day.

3. Be active in discussions: it keeps you accountable.

@byalexai No3 is the best point, because you have a proof you were active :)

No real streaks, but I definitely fall off the map while deep in developer mode or the post-productive exhaustion phase.

@sweeteyecandy At least, you were working on something meaningful! :)

I haven’t actually lost a streak on product hunt still new, but I have lost streaks on other platforms tho. One which I regretted was a 129 days streak on my bible app and that was because I was really occupied and exhausted, then slept off. But I feel the best way is to keep an alarm or reminder that reminds you that particular time to engage in app
