GuideGuide for After Effects - A plugin for powerful grids and guides in After Effects

GuideGuide is a plugin that makes it easy to construct columns, build baselines, mark midpoints, and respect ratios, all by manipulating guides in your favorite design tools — now in After Effects. Never kinda basically nearly almost line things up again.

Howdy 🤠,

Creator of GuideGuide here. I launched the first version of GuideGuide back in 2010 as a balm for the burn that was trying to manage grid systems across web design PSD files. Can you imagine?

Sixteen years later and graphic design software has gotten a lot better — but After Effects still has nothing in the way of grid support. Arguably, that's because no one would be crazy enough to do layout in After Effects. But you know what? SCREW IT. I'm shoving GuideGuide in there so you can have a nice experience lining things up, whether it's advisable or not.

GuideGuide is powerful grid and guide plugin that works in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, and now After Effects. You can do the typical vanilla stuff like margins, columns, rows, and gutters. I've also thrown in a few buttons for quickly adding guides to the edges and midpoints of your compositions or selected objects.

Where it really gets weird is Grid Notation. Somewhere in the last decade and a half I had the thought “You know what? I should write a custom language for writing grids so, like, three people could use the Fibonacci sequence”. #noregrets. If you're into nerd shit like the golden ratio or basing stuff on other stuff, GuideGuide can do it.

However you use After Effects, if you’ve got stuff that needs to line up with other stuff, GuideGuide’s got your back. And if you’re workflow spans multiple apps, all the better. I hope you like it.
