I built an app for people who love shopping, but hate spending money πŸ›’

Hey Product Hunt! πŸ‘‹

I'm an indie developer, and today I'm launching my first app, almostcart!

It started with a simple thought:

Why does adding something to a shopping cart feel so satisfying, even when we don't actually need it?

We've all been there. Browsing at midnight, adding random things to our carts, convincing ourselves it's a great deal… and sometimes regretting the purchase later.

So I decided to build something a little different.

almostcart lets you enjoy the shopping experience without the pressure to buy. You can build carts, release them instead of checking out, and become more mindful of your shopping habits.

Building and launching an app as an indie developer has been quite a journey, and I'm excited to finally share it with the world.

I'm here to learn from other makers, exchange ideas, and hopefully build something people genuinely enjoy using.
Also, it would be helpful if you tell me how did you do marketing for your app? My app was launched few days ago in Android and 2 days back in iOS and I couldn't find better ways to introduce the idea to people, other than Reddit.

One question for everyone: What's something you almost bought recently, but are glad you didn't? πŸ˜„

Would love to hear your stories!

Congrats on the first launch, Arvind, releasing a cart instead of checking out is a lovely idea. Since the whole product is a feeling, I would invest most in the release moment: a small animation, a good haptic, and the total you just did not spend, growing over time. That running number is the reward that replaces the purchase. A home screen widget with it could work well too, I added a widget to my own app and it keeps the app in view without a single notification. Good luck with almostcart!

Β Thanks so much, George! Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback. almostcart has most of the features you mentioned, including release order animation, haptics and savings tracker. The home screen widget is a great suggestion, and I'll definitely explore it. Thanks again for your support.
