Hey everyone! I'm Adib, the maker behind Lumary.
I started building this because I was recording courses and kept running into the
same frustrations. My webcam was baked into the screen recording so I couldn't
reframe it later. If my Mac crashed, the footage was gone. And every tool either
wanted a monthly subscription or needed some cloud account just to work.
So I built what I wanted: a recorder that saves each source (screen, camera, mic,
system audio) as its own file. That way I have total control in post. When I don't
need that flexibility, composite mode gives me a clean picture-in-picture file with
one click.
Along the way I kept adding things I wished I had — ProRes for dropping files
straight into Final Cut without re-encoding, on-device transcription so I get
captions without uploading anything, and crash recovery using fragmented MP4 so a
kernel panic doesn't mean losing an hour of recording.
The whole thing is built on Apple's native frameworks. No Electron, no cloud, no
tracking, no account required. Your recordings stay on your Mac and that's it.
A few things I'm especially proud of:
- Course mode for organizing lessons, modules, and takes
- Stream Deck support so I can record hands-free
- 20+ global hotkeys for controlling everything without switching windows
- Crash recovery that's saved me more times than I'd like to admit
It's a one-time purchase, no subscription. I'd love to hear what you think and
happy to answer any questions!
