🎓 Did you quit something to build your startup?

I was 15 when I entered university...

In my 4th year of engineering, I dropped out to go all-in on Murmell.

People around me thought I was crazy. Some of them still do hehe

But honestly, I've never learned so much in my life than in these last months.

So I'm curious:

What did you leave to build your product?

A job? School? A comfortable salary?

And do you regret it, even a little?..

I didn't quit anything big. I gave up evenings and some weekends to build a budgeting tool in the UK. Posting small updates as I go helps on the slow weeks, because I can see what's actually changed. But then I've been building this particular app slowly over the last two years that I've had it in my head. It's only been the last 6 months where I've been able to accelerate and start shaping it up to be the thing I had in my head.

evenings and weekends for two years is its own kind of quitting hehe :) What changed 6 months ago that let you speed up?

The tools, and the drive really. I've been hand-cranking this product for the longest time, but now AI tools are of such high-quality, it's enabled me to accelerate quickly. Plus I think, I've now got the drive to say "I don't want customers any more, I want to ship products", which is to say I want to evolve my consultancy business from customer-led to product-led, if that makes sense?

makes total sense! going from client work to your own product is a big switch hehe... Is the consultancy still paying the bills while you build, or are you going all in?

I'm probably in a lucky position whereby I've been running by business for a few years, so have some workable revenue I can repurpose to help launch a product - finite, but manageable. Customers still pay the bills, but who knows what will happen if the product I want to launch does take off?
