PATE - Other apps split the total. PATE splits the actual bill.

Every other bill splitter makes you guess. PATE photographs the receipt, reads every item with AI, and assigns exact amounts to whoever ate what. No maths. No equal splits. No arguments. Free to use.

Hey Product Hunt - You've seen bill splitting apps before. They all do the same thing: divide the total equally. Which sounds fine until someone only had a salad, someone else had three cocktails, and the bill lists five beers as a single line item. PATE splits by exactly what everyone ordered. Here's what makes it different: Scan the receipt - the AI reads every item automatically. You don't type a single number. Send a WhatsApp link to the group - everyone taps what they ordered on their own phone. No app needed on their end. Their selections come straight back to you. Review and accept - PATE assigns the items automatically based on what each person claimed. Or skip the WhatsApp flow entirely and assign everything yourself - tap who had what, shared dishes split automatically, totals update in real time. Either way, everyone gets their exact amount. Not a rough split. The actual number. Works with pounds, euros, dollars and more - tax, service charge, and VAT all read directly from the receipt. No settings to configure. Free to use. Nothing to install. Open patesplit.com on your phone and you're ready before the waiter comes back. I built this because the problem is genuinely unsolved. Would love to hear what you think - here all day.

love the app, especially as you don't even need to install! Very smooth to use :)

 most appreciated!

the WhatsApp claim-your-item flow only really works if everyone in the group is willing to open the link and tap through before you're ready to pay, which in my experience is the part that actually falls apart at the table, not the math. how does it handle the person who never taps anything, does it fall back to an equal split for just their share or block the whole bill from closing

Hi Gal, thanks for the question, it's a good one!

Neither, really. If someone won't tap the link, the primary user can just add their items manually on the split page instead, so they don't need the other person to do anything. They could just demand that they tell them what they had verbally.

Still, far easier for them than handing over the receipt and asking The reluctant individual to work out their share by hand.

that verbal-negotiation fallback makes sense for two people at a table, but I'd guess it breaks down fast once the group is remote or async - the whole point of the photo-and-link flow was avoiding that conversation in the first place. Curious if you've seen groups actually fall back to it in practice or if most just wait the holdout out.

if you have friends at the dinner table who frankly refuse to split the bill fairly, then that's a social problem, and not a problem with the app design.

I would then question who you choose having dinner with in the future! 😉

Do note however that there is a 'split everything' button which splits everything equally between all participants.

fair, that's a good deflection and honestly probably true half the time. the split-everything button is a reasonable escape hatch too, though it does undercut the whole "splits by exactly what everyone ordered" pitch the moment someone reaches for it. not a criticism, more that it's a useful signal - if a group reaches for split-everything often, that's PATE telling you the itemized flow isn't worth the friction for that particular group
