Building the note taking app for the AI era

by•

Hello everyone!

I'm Atul. I've been a software engineer for the past five years, and I'm currently a graduate student in Computational Sciences at the University of Vienna. As a student, I've tried many note-taking apps, but none of them really cater to the needs of students, especially in the AI era. So I built my own: Pen Buddy.

Pen Buddy has everything a student studying with AI could need. My goal was to recreate the experience of studying with a really smart friend, and to solve one of AI's biggest problems for students: getting answers without actually learning.

That's where Buddy comes in. Buddy is a built-in, AI-powered conversational companion. It can talk with you, give you hints when you're stuck, notice when you're struggling, and adapt to help you through it. When you turn it on, it can see your screen and your PDFs. It can draw out explanations, flowcharts, and graphs, read and write mathematical equations, and work through LeetCode problems, brain teasers, or anything else you throw at it. It also prepares briefs, summaries, and flashcards from your lectures and notes.

I've always heard that you should build something you'd use every day, and now I see why. Pen Buddy has replaced my old note-taking app, and every day I'm working to make it the best experience possible for students.
