I built OmniKey AI to bring AI to the text you are already working on
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Gurinder, the creator of OmniKey AI, a free, open-source tool for macOS and Windows.
I built it around a simple frustration: rewriting one paragraph with AI often means switching apps, pasting, waiting, copying, and switching back. I wanted AI to work where I'm already typing.
With OmniKey, you select text in an app and use a keyboard shortcut to improve a prompt, fix grammar, or apply your own saved instructions. The result replaces your selection in place.
You bring your own model provider: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint such as Ollama or LM Studio. Local models are an option; using a cloud provider sends the selected text to that provider. The project is MIT-licensed.
I wrote about the design, the copy-paste problem, and when a chat tab is still the better choice here:

I'd love honest feedback: where does switching to a chat tab interrupt your workflow most? And would you prefer immediate in-place replacement or a preview before applying a rewrite?
