I’m deciding what SvaraSleep should personalise first—what would you choose?
I’m building SvaraSleep, a sleep-routine app, and I’m at a product decision I’m struggling to make.
Most sleep apps either ask a lot of questions upfront or give everyone the same sounds and routines. I want to personalise the experience, but I do not want onboarding to feel like homework or collect more information than is genuinely useful.
For an early version, I can prioritise only one of these:
Routine timing — helping users build a realistic wind-down routine around their usual sleep and wake times.
Audio preference — suggesting sound environments based on what helps a user relax.
Nightly check-in — adjusting the suggestion based on whether a user feels stressed, restless, or tired that evening.
My current instinct is to start with routine timing because it can provide value without requiring sensitive health data. But I may be missing how people actually decide whether a sleep product is worth returning to.
If you have built, used, or abandoned a wellness product, I would especially value your view on:
Which of these would make the first session feel useful?
What is a reasonable amount of onboarding before you would quit?
Where does “personalised” start to feel intrusive rather than helpful?
I’ll share what I decide and what I learn from the responses.
