As a software engineer with over 7 years of experience, I’ve spent countless hours behind a screen, often managing stress in unhealthy ways. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I developed a heavy smoking habit, averaging nearly a pack a day. I tried to quit multiple times but failed every single time. Everything changed when I discovered mindfulness and Buddhist meditation techniques. Through consistent practice, I learned to anchor myself in the present moment, focusing on the breath rather than being consumed by regrets of the past or anxieties about a future that hasn't happened yet. This practice was the key that finally helped me quit smoking—I’ve now been tobacco-free for 7 months. That personal transformation is why I built Serene. I wanted to create a tool that helps others find that same pocket of peace. Whether you are dealing with addiction, work-related stress, or simply want to stay present, I hope this app serves you well. I would be deeply grateful for your feedback. Please try it out and let me know how I can improve it to better support your practice. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Serene feels reliable, minimal, and respectful of meditation practice. The timer and interval chimes work consistently, even with the screen off, which is a big plus. I like the lack of gamification and distractions.

A faster “start last session” option would improve daily use, and clearer in-app messaging about who the app is for could strengthen its identity. Overall, I’d keep using it as my main meditation timer and would recommend it once the experience is slightly more streamlined.
