Free, open-source disk usage analyzer for macOS, Windows and Linux. See what fills your disk, servers (SSH) and cloud storage in an animated sunburst or treemap, and clean it up safely. A DaisyDisk, WizTree and WinDirStat alternative, in native Rust 🦀
A few years ago I built SquirrelDisk because I wanted a free, good-looking way to answer one annoying question: "where did all my disk space go?" Lots of you used it (around 160k downloads), and then life happened and the project went quiet. Bugs piled up and the issues kept coming in.
So I started over. SquirrelDisk 2 is a complete rewrite in native Rust. It's faster, lighter (less than 10MB), nicer to look at, and it fixes many long-standing bugs on macOS, Windows and Linux.
What it does 🌀 See your whole disk at once. Every folder is a slice of a sunburst (or a box in a treemap, if you prefer), sized by the space it takes. The chart builds up live while the scan runs, so the big offenders show up in seconds. 🧺 Collect, then clean up. Drag folders into the collector, then send them to the Trash, delete them for good (with optional secure erase), or copy them to an external drive or the cloud first. 🛡️ Safe by design. System folders, your home folder and whole drives are protected, so you can't wipe something important by mistake. 📏 Accurate numbers. It shows the space files really take on disk. Cloud-only files (iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive…) count as zero, and linked folders are counted once. ☁️ Servers and cloud too. Scan machines over SSH, plus S3, Google Drive, Dropbox and dozens more through rclone, which it installs for you in one click. ⌨️ New in 2.5: a squirreldisk command for the terminal and "Scan with SquirrelDisk" right in your folder's right-click menu.
Plus 25 languages, automatic updates and a portable mode for USB sticks.
It's free and open source, with no account, and no tracking.
