The Heroin Diaries is one of the music books I read over and over; my copy is dog-eared from so many years of use. Though the title might scare away some people, the book is not a how-to on drugs; it's a spotlight into the madness that drugs unleash, not only on the creative process, but simply on the human mind as well. Written during the height of Motley Crue's popularity, Nikki Sixx's tell-all book is not a retrospective; it's an in-the-moment battle for life and sanity that just staggers the reader. Oh, and the soundtrack that accompanies it, released by Sixx's sideband Sixx:A.M., is a must-hear album in and of itself.
