🛒 The 30-Minute Aisle Standoff — and why we built TravPick

by•

Have you ever walked into a store to buy one product,

and found yourself stuck in front of a shelf for 20–30 minutes?

We kept seeing the same situation repeat itself:

  • Shelves full of nearly identical options

  • Ads and sponsored reviews everywhere

  • No clear way to know what actually fits me

  • Even harder when traveling or shopping abroad

What’s framed as “more choice” often becomes decision fatigue.

The moment it clicked for us

During early testing, one user told us:

“I wasn’t looking for more information.

I just wanted someone to tell me how to choose.”

That line stayed with us.

People don’t hesitate because they don’t want to decide —

they hesitate because they don’t have clear criteria.

From search → discovery

Most shopping tools push people to:

  • search more

  • compare more

We decided to take a different approach.

Instead of adding more layers of information,

what if one photo could simplify the decision?

TravPick turns a real product or shelf photo into:

  • structured criteria

  • key ingredient & feature highlights

  • a lighter, calmer decision process

No hardware.

No wearables.

Just software that reduces mental load in offline shopping.

Why this matters (especially offline)

Offline shopping hasn’t changed much,

but the pressure on consumers has increased.

Our belief is simple:

Better choices don’t come from more information.

They come from clearer understanding.

We’re still early — and learning

This launch is part of our learning process, not the finish line.

We’d genuinely love to hear from the Product Hunt community:

  • Where do you personally feel decision fatigue the most?

(groceries, beauty, supplements, travel shopping, something else?)

  • When choosing products, what helps you more — more information or clearer criteria?

  • What’s one moment in shopping where you wish decisions felt lighter?

We’ll read and reply to every comment thoughtfully.

Even small perspectives help us shape TravPick better.
