How do you protect yourself from fake reviews and scam products while shopping online?
Hey Product Hunt community 👋
I've been building TrustMeter a free Chrome extension that helps shoppers avoid fake reviews, scam products, and dropshipping traps.
Here's the problem we're solving:
Studies suggest that nearly 40% of reviews on major e-commerce platforms are fake or incentivized. Star ratings are gamed. Sponsored listings push questionable products to the top. Most shoppers have no easy way to cut through the noise.
What TrustMeter does differently:
Instead of summarizing the same Amazon reviews everyone already sees, TrustMeter scans Reddit threads, YouTube comments, and real community forums to surface what genuine users actually think about a product. Our AI runs anti-fraud logic on top of that to detect patterns typical of dropshipping, counterfeit goods, and review manipulation then gives you a Trust Score from 0–100 right on the product page.
A score above 80 = strong community trust. 50–80 = mixed signals worth investigating. Below 50 = proceed with serious caution.
Works on Amazon, Flipkart, AliExpress, eBay, Shopify stores, Etsy, Temu, and more.
No subscription needed. You get 5 free analyses on signup.
I'd love to hear from this community:
- Have you ever been burned by fake reviews?
- What tools or methods do you currently use to vet a product before buying?
- What features would make a trust-checking tool actually useful for you?
Any feedback or ideas are super welcome we're still early and building in public!
