📈 3 Days after my first Product Hunt Launch: Traffic, Learnings & next steps
Hey there, 3 days ago I successfully published my first product on Product Hunt with 0 Social media presence. I got place #13 out of 307 submissions this day. I call this a successful launch and wanna share my experience and insights with you.
👉 Traffic and Numbers
- Product Hunt placement: #13
- Product Hunt upvotes: 110
- Product Hunt comments: 13
--> without me/replies: 5
- Total Site visitors: 323
- Total Site signups: 26
--> Launch day: 17
--> 2nd day: 5
--> 3rd day: 4
- Total paid customers: 0
👉 Days after launch
The first day after the launch I did not much. I made one Post in a Facebook AI group (got me 2 likes lol 😆), on Twitter and kinda just watched Product Hunt (PH) and my site stats go.
Even after launch day I still got some traffic from PH since I was top 15.
Visitors after launch:
Day 1: 229 (68 from PH)
Day 2: 64 (20 from PH)
Day 3: 33 (0 from PH)
The third day did not bring any referrals from PH at all, which makes sense since PH only lists the top 15 products from yesterday and at that time it was day 3.
👉 Success factors
One week before launch I was done with the whole Application and already deployed it.
At this point I just wanted to list it on Product Hunt. I started filling out the details. Then the section for pictures and videos came.
At first I just wanted to paste in some screenshots of the site. Then I thought I might check out what other successful launches did.
Immediately I noticed that most of the top launches had a really high quality advertisement video and good pictures that weren’t just screenshots but actually had text in them like in a power point presentation.
So I went ahead and took a week to created a promo video that showed the product in 30 seconds in a clear and satisfying way.
After that I thought about what I wanted to show and tell people with my pictures.
Then I wrote a two headlines for the pics and took a few little screenshots of parts of the website that I wanted to showcase. After that I put them all together to directly tell the viewer what my product was all about.
I believe that this played a big role in my launch since I had 0 Followers and 0 people actually knew about the product expect my mom and close friends 😆
------------------------
💡 TL; DR:
Presentation is everything so don’t just put plain screenshots of your site with too much text in your launch. A viewer has to easily understand what your product is all about without much effort.
Communicate clear
Cut everything out that is you babbling about your product (even in your video). Always think about “What do I want to tell the Viewer/Reader”
👉 Learnings
Many people visited my site but never really got to experience what my product is all about. Because if we think about it, 323 went to the site and only 26 actually signed up.
So 297 people just left after the signup page.
My takeaway from this is that I should
Implement a little demo where you can use the platform 100% for free without signup (Idealy it should be directly accessible on the Landingpage)
You need to make it as easy as possible for your Customers/users. So I have to add Google signin. That way users don’t have to remember yet another password just to try something out.
👉 What’s next
I am currently working on getting Rolyai out in the world an known by many people. Yesterday I Submitted Roly to 34 AI listing website. 3 of them already listed my tool. For the other 31 I am waiting for approval.
In the meantime I will post more valuable content on Product Hunt, Twitter and Youtube.
Other than that I will keep improving the site. At first some quality of life features like:
Google login
Site responsiveness
More clear visual feedback for users on the site
And then some bigger features like:
Create Chat branches and go back in time like Git to explore Ideas more freely
👉 Final Words
I am really happy how my first ever launch went. Thank you all for the support. ❤️
Rolyai is not just ANOTHER AI tool that disappears after on month, just because it doesn’t have 10000 users instantly.
Rolyai is here to stay and will keep growing and getting better and better.
I’d love for you to be part of that journey. So stick along and I’ll show you my vision. ✨

Big respect for sharing the actual numbers. Most people just talk about success without details. Super helpful to see what real PH traffic looks like.

@abod_rehman We believe transparency like this helps the whole community learn. We've benefited so much from others sharing their real numbers, so it only felt right to pay it forward.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and learnings 🙌 really valuable for someone like me.
Wishing you lots of success with Rolyai, it’s inspiring to see your energy and persistence. I’m also about to launch my first app here in the next couple of days, so your post came at the perfect time.

@ejon_duka That's awesome mate, your welcome and thank you too :)
Also much success with your launch 🔥🔥
You got this, always believe in yourself and have fun no matter what you do, even if you don't like it at first.
If you give it your all then in the end the outcome doesn't really matter since you can't say, I didn't do enough. And if it does not work out directly then keep grinding and you will get there eventually. If you never quit you never lose 😁
Thank's for usefull information

@evtey88 You're welcome, happy that you liked it :)

@sheraz_abdul_hayee Thank you so much ❤️ :D
Glad you liked it and that it was helpful.
Fingers crossed, I wish you all the best for your launch. 🔝
Nervous? 😄
@david442 Yeah a bit, seems like i am all over the place right now.
rolyai
@david442 it seems like i should had a better way to collect the waitlist details. For now i am using our website request a demo page for gathering the info.
rolyai
@sheraz_abdul_hayee Mhh, I get that. The words "request a demo" feels like a little distant and only for companies. Just how I feel about this.
If you're only collecting emails for the Waitlist, I would make it easily visible and lable it like that. For example: "Get notified about updates" (just a plain thought and I haven't looked at your website, so maybe take that with a grain of salt)
Thanks for the details. I am launching on PH in 12 days, so it helps.
Also, wishing you success...really like your passion ( Rolyai is not just another..). All the best!

@david442 Thanks a lot for your wishes! Here it is:

Sales AI tool that creates bite sized battlecards that maps your solutions, differentiators and proof points to buyer's pain points!

@manu_goel2 nice one.
I just looked at it a little bit. It sounds interesting. So you basically get the important things that you wanna say to specifically target this one clients needs. And that could lead to easier sales or better conversions if it really is better than your own skill.

Big Wavy Cheers @david442
Great breakdown of the numbers!
So many founders just talk about success without digging into what actually happened.
Cutting out fluff from your launch video and focusing on a single message is something I wish more makers did. And yes, lowering friction (free demos, Google login) is probably the next unlock.
Congrats on a thoughtful launch, and all the best for building from here.
rolyai
@sanskarix Hey, thank you for your feedback ❤️🔥
So Google login it is.
I totally agree. I mean you don't have to pull an insane marketing video like I did to communicate what your product is about xD.
Just focusing on making it as easy as possible for people to understand.
And sometimes not putting focus on every single feature is key.
Also I really like communicating a feeling of what your product is all about instead of much text.
Loved reading this breakdown, David, it's super helpful for those of us still early on our PH journey. The bit about presentation really hit home; we noticed the same thing with our own launch of Escape Velocity AI. Even small tweaks in clarity and visuals make a big difference in how people “get it” right away.
Do you think adding a demo/no-signup flow will be your biggest unlock for the next round, or do you see content (like YouTube/Twitter) pulling more weight in driving signups?
rolyai
@andreitudor14 Thanks :D love hearing that ❤️
Absolutely true.
About the demo. Since some time has passed, I thought about it a bit more.
Yes it could have helped for a few more people to sign up. BUT there are some things why I believe that it was the right choice not to add on launch:
Just a quick demo wouldn't have shown the real benefit compared to plain ChatGPT
Making that demo would have cost an unreasonable time and work to finish. For example I would have needed to take care of rate limiting to not get bankrupt 💀😆 and adding new API endpoints, etc.
In my opinion the by far biggest impact on the project right now is, creating and posting content on social media.
Because the product is finished and rounded as it is right now. Adding more features won't bring new users.
Only getting the product in front of new people and showing them the benefit will grow Rolyai.
Currently I am trying to create awesome posts on PH and interacting/tweeting on Twitter.
Also since I know how to edit videos, my plan is to post YT shorts on YouTube. I already brainstormed some ideas, so that's planned. 🔥🔥
About Twitter. Right now I don't see any changes or results from it.
I think the most success will come from YouTube. Still I will give my best to get some attention on twitter and make good connections with people there.
Maybe there is just a wall that needs to be broken through since I currently don't really have a social media presence.
rolyai
@andreitudor14 Just want to add something to my reply.
In general I think having at least a little demo is awesome. For example I just checkout out Escape Velocity and my first thought was, that I just wanted to get my hands on it and try it out, to get a feel on whats it about.
Could be lazy me. But I can imagine that especially if you come to a product from a site like product hunt, and not a tutorial on YouTube you just watched, that you then only want to test out the product since you aren't yet sold on the product.
What do you think?
