3 Months of Hard Work, Zero Retention
Hey everyone, hope you're doing well this weekend.
I’m not here to promote anything. Just feeling a bit stuck and wanted to share something.
I recently built an MVP: a productivity tool I originally made for myself to stay focused.
I really thought others might find it useful too. A few people tried it and gave positive feedback, but no one really stuck around to use it.
It’s a weird place to be. I’ve spent months working on it, sacrificing all my free time after my full-time job, and now I’m reconsidering whether to keep going or just trash the whole thing (honestly leaning more toward the second 😅).
As a last move, I thought maybe I should ask people who care about productivity:
If there were a tool built just for your niche, what would it be for?
What’s something specific you wish existed—not another general app, but something tailored to your real needs?
If you’ve been through something similar, or have thoughts on how to stay motivated when things flop, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks for reading 🙏

Thanks for sharing this so openly, @oleg_leo 🙌
If I could suggest one angle for @Endspire: instead of aiming for another general productivity app, maybe niche it hard. For example, "daily focus for writers," or "task tracking for freelancers." Yeah, productivity is universal, but I believe retention comes from solving one particular pain point better than anyone else.
Don't give up yet. You're closer than you think 💪
@talshyn Thank you so much for your reply :)
That’s such a helpful insight! It really makes me feel like narrowing down to a specific niche is the only way forward from here.
Maybe it’s time to stop constantly enhancing what I’ve already built and take a proper step back to rethink the ICP for this idea. The hard part is getting people to actually engage while I’m still figuring out what niche I’m even aiming for.
I also think that niche has to be something I genuinely connect with. Because building something new, especially doing it solo, is seriously tough. It takes so much energy, and sometimes it feels like you’re just shouting into the void.
