AI mentions don’t equal AI conversions — we measured the gap

by

While testing how AI assistants recommend brands, we noticed a pattern that surprised us.

Many brands show up frequently in AI-generated answers — but when users ask for what to do next (book, buy, visit, compare), the AI often cites a different source. In many cases, that source is not the brand’s own website.

In other words:

  • Brands can win AI visibility

  • But still lose the action

This feels like the next blind spot after SEO:
We measure rankings and traffic, but we don’t measure where AI sends intent.

Curious:

  • Have you seen AI recommend a brand but link the action elsewhere?

  • How are you thinking about attribution in an AI-first internet?

Would love to hear how others are approaching this.
