Built my first app in 4 months as a student – how do I actually get beta testers?

by

Hey Product Hunt 👋

I’m a student and for the last 4 months I’ve been working on my very first app — CleanCook.

The idea came from pure frustration: every time I wanted to cook something, I’d open a recipe site and get bombarded with pop-ups, long personal stories, and endless scrolling just to see the ingredients. So I built an iOS app that fixes exactly that.

You paste any recipe link (or use Safari Share) → it instantly gives you a clean version with just the ingredients and steps. No ads, no fluff, no 2,000-word life story before the first ingredient.

It also has Cooking Mode (screen stays on + big text), smart shopping list, and works really well on Israeli recipe sites.

Beta is already live on TestFlight.

Now the hard part begins.

I’m looking for real advice from people who already launched their first app:

  • How did you find your first quality beta testers?

  • How did you turn website visitors into a waitlist / mailing list?

  • What worked for you and what was a total waste of time?

I’d also love any brutal feedback on the app itself if you want to try it.

Thank you in advance — really appreciate any wisdom from the community ❤️
