CES 2026 | PlugMate: A Full Independent System in a Thumb-Sized Device

At CES 2026, TrustKernel unveiled a small but unconventional piece of hardware called PlugMate.
At first glance, it looks like a standard USB drive. In reality, it runs a full Android operating system (PlugOS) inside, instantly giving any phone, tablet, or computer a fully isolated digital space.

Why would users need this?

In everyday work and life, many people run into the same problems:

  • Multi-account overload
Content creators and professionals often manage multiple accounts, juggling devices or constantly switching logins, which is inefficient and error-prone.

  • Blurred work-life boundaries
Private messages pop up during presentations, or children get distracted by entertainment apps while trying to study

  • iPhone users locked out of Android-only apps
Some apps are Android-exclusive, leaving iPhone users staring at “Android only” notices.

  • Privacy and travel concerns
Carrying sensitive data raises concerns about cloud access, device traces, and unintended data exposure.

PlugMate is designed as a direct, hardware-level response to these pain points.

Core experience

  • Plug and play via USB-C on phones, tablets, or computers

  • Hardware-level isolation with all computation, apps, and data running entirely on PlugMate

  • Zero host footprint — unplug it, and the host device is left untouched

  • Full Android on iPhone, running independently as a true hardware-level dual-system setup

In short:
Plug it in, and work, life, entertainment, and privacy stay separate. Unplug it, and everything returns to normal.

Security and privacy by design

All data is stored locally on the device. PlugMate does not upload, track, or monitor user activity and aligns with major global privacy regulations including GDPR, PIPL, and CCPA.

PlugOS and its supporting systems have passed multiple international security and privacy certifications, including ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, and Common Criteria (CC EAL), ensuring users retain real control over their digital assets.

A CES perspective

While CES 2026 is filled with cloud-based AI and deeply connected ecosystems, PlugMate presents a different direction:
bringing systems, data, and control back to personal hardware.

Despite its thumb-sized form factor, PlugMate addresses real-world challenges such as multi-account management, cross-platform access, work-life separation, and privacy protection.

PlugMate is not just a piece of hardware.
It represents a portable, independent digital space. At CES 2026, it offers a glimpse into a more personal, controlled future of portable computing.
