Find me buyers from everywhere bro" the most common thing founders type into Starnus
After our Product Hunt launch we watched hundreds of founders sign up and start using the platform.
And here's what surprised us.
Most of them even ones running real businesses making money had no idea how to describe their ideal customer. They'd stare at the prompt and type stuff like "anyone who needs my product" or "find me buyers from everywhere."
Not beginners. Founders with revenue. With teams.
We always assumed ICP definition was the easy part. It's not. It might be the hardest part of outbound that nobody talks about.
So we stopped assuming and built a fix.
We added an ICP generator directly into Starnus. You answer a few quick questions, what you sell, who you think it's for and it builds a full ICP for you. Then it finds those people, reaches out, follows up, books meetings. No blank prompt anxiety.

Should have built this on day one honestly. The difference in conversion is already wild.
Question for this community
how many of you can describe your ICP in one sentence right now?

That is crazy, but not altogether surprising. Although it sounds like business 101 founders tend to have a massive fear of leaving money on the table, or FOMO, therefore anyone who could potentially use your product is a potential user. I think the problem compounds when there are so many technical founders building AI apps who think it can do everything for everyone.

@peterclaridge exactly this. the FOMO thing is real, nobody wants to narrow down because it feels like you're cutting off potential customers. but the opposite happens, when you try to sell to everyone you end up connecting with nobody. and yeah the AI thing makes it worse because technically the tool can do a lot so founders think why limit it. but outbound doesn't work like that, you need to know exactly who you're talking to or the messaging falls flat. that's basically why we built the ICP generator, to force that clarity before anything else happens.
