How do you recruit early adopters for your applications?

I’m working on a free app in its early MVP stage and looking for effective ways to recruit early adopters/testers to provide feedback and help shape the product. Let’s exchange ideas!

I imagine it’d be easier if this were a paid app (since we could just offer free access), but since we’re free, I’d love to hear what methods have you used successfully to attract early users for free products?

Also, if you’ve been an early adopter yourself, what motivated you to try a new product?
