🧭 How I Came to the Idea for the Golf Compass App

by•

After more than 30 years as a PGA Golf Professional, I’d taught just about every kind of golfer — from beginners to tournament players. But over time, I realized something deeper was missing in the way we train and play.

Golf is not just a technical game. It’s a mirror. It shows us how we handle pressure, how we think, and how we connect with ourselves.

That realization hit me during a vision quest in the desert of Washington State in 2024. Four days alone, fasting in silence, I began to see clear parallels between the natural cycles of life — what’s known as the Four Shields of Human Nature — and the game of golf itself.

  • East – Vision & Shot Plan: The spark of clarity before every shot.

  • South – Body & Feel: The physical rhythm and emotional connection.

  • West – Reflection & Learning: Honest self-assessment, letting go of outcomes.

  • North – Structure & Responsibility: Discipline, wisdom, and consistency.

That’s how Golf Compass was born — a simple reflective app to help golfers find daily balance on and off the course.

It’s not about swing mechanics. It’s about rhythm, awareness, and self-connection — what truly keeps a golfer centered.

Built for golfers who know the game is as much inner as it is outer.

Tested and refined by players, coaches, and veterans who believe in personal growth through the game.

This app is a step toward redefining golf training — from performance obsession to personal awareness.

@blainbertrand im wondering how it’s supposed to be used on the course. Before every shot or the round itself? What did you envision?

@derek_brambles It starts before every shot. Firstly, you practice enough on the range that it becomes a routine to use it out on the course. Secondly, you could practice out on the course until it becomes routine. It’s all about creating habit. And totally teachable.
