I built a privacy-first, 100% offline AI writing assistant.
Hi everyone! ๐
I'm an indie developer, and I want to share my project with you: WitNote.
The Problem: I love using AI for writing, but I hate two things:
Sending my private notes to the cloud.
Paying monthly subscriptions just to process text.
The Solution: I built WitNote, a local AI file editor that runs entirely offline. It connects to your local LLMs (like via Ollama or built-in models) to help you edit, summarize, and brainstorm without a single byte of data leaving your device.
๐ป Features:
Privacy First: Zero data collection. Everything stays on your SSD.
Cross-Platform: Works on Windows and macOS.
Markdown Support: Clean, distraction-free writing experience.
The "Indie Struggle": Getting this onto macOS was a journey. As a solo dev with a tight budget, the $99/year Apple Developer fee was honestly a hurdleโI actually had to borrow the money just to get the account verified so I could sign the app properly for you guys. ๐ But I believe the ease of installation for users is worth it.
Looking for Feedback: Iโve just released version 1.0. I would love for you to roast it, test it, and tell me what features are missing.
๐ Check it out on GitHub: https://github.com/hooosberg/WitNote
Thanks for reading! (PS: If you like it, a Star on GitHub would mean the world to me!)
