Meet people who share your niche cultural taste

by

Hello.

I am a maker of Shampoo, a mutual taste-based dating app.

I realized that when two people genuinely share the same tastes—music, films, books, or places—meeting each other tends to feel smoother and more intuitive. There’s less guessing, less friction, and fewer moments of wondering whether you’re really on the same wavelength.

Many apps already ask about interests, but those inputs are often too broad to mean much. Liking “movies,” “games,” or “hiking” doesn’t really say who you are—almost everyone likes those things. What actually creates alignment are the specifics: a certain kind of film, a particular book, a niche artist or a place with a distinct atmosphere that naturally attracts people with a similar vibe. People who care about those details tend to share a similar sensibility, even before they talk. I’d been waiting for connections like that for a long time, but I couldn’t find an app that helped those people find each other. Most dating and social apps still rely on profiles and swiping, which leaves people repeating the same uncertain first steps.

So I decided to build it myself. As the product evolved, my approach shifted from matching people to letting specific tastes do the filtering upfront. Instead of asking users to explain themselves, the app allows concrete cultural preferences to speak first—so when two people connect, it already feels like they’re coming from a similar place.

If any of this resonates with you, please keep an eye on us when Shampoo launches on Product Hunt.

Shampoo will be on PH in next 18 hours on 12/17 12:01 am PST.
