Most AI assistants still feel trapped in chat

That frustration is a big part of why we built Rainy MaTE.

A lot of AI products are great at replying, but much weaker at actually operating:

  • retaining context over time

  • using tools with control

  • coordinating execution across tasks

  • behaving more like a system than a one-off prompt box

We’ve been exploring a different direction with Rainy MaTE: local-first AI built around autonomy, memory, tools, and specialist coordination.

Curious how others here think about this: what makes an AI product feel genuinely useful beyond chat?

  • memory?

  • tool use?

  • local execution?

  • reliability?

  • autonomy with boundaries?

Would love to hear where current AI products still fall short for you.
