Shaping Healthy Screen Time for Babies: Features and suggestions
Hi Product Hunt community! 👋
I’m the maker of TummyTime+, a project born from the belief that early-stage digital tools should be "Slow-Tech": calm, intentional, and strictly focused on development rather than just keeping a baby "busy".
As we move into our next phase of development, I want to hear from parents, caregivers, and fellow makers. We are obsessed with improving usability and defining what "Healthy Screen Time" actually looks like for a newborn.
I would love your insights on three specific areas:
Usability in the "Parenting Trenches": If you’ve used baby apps, what is your biggest frustration with their usability? Between holding a baby, a diaper bag, or a bottle, what UI/UX choices make an app actually usable for you in a high-stress moment?
Features for Healthy Habits: We currently use Session Timers to prevent over-exposure. What other "guardrail" features would help you feel more confident about your baby’s digital interactions?
The "Cry Detection & Live video sharing securely in local network" Idea: I’m considering adding Cry Detection & Live video sharing securely in local network as our next major feature. The idea is that the app would listen for a baby’s distress and automatically transition from a "play" mode to a "soothing" mode (gentler visuals and calming white noise) to help with emotional regulation and notify parents for cry detection and parent can connect through live video feed to calm kid.
Would this be a "life-saver" feature for you?
Do you have concerns about an app "listening" or automating that comfort?
We want to build a tool that helps babies grow stronger and focus better without the typical sensory overload. Your feedback will directly influence our next sprint!
Looking forward to learning from your experiences and suggestions for making better and safe future for kids.
