Why I hit "Cancel" minutes before our launch (and started over from scratch)
Hey makers! 👋
Â
I’m Donatien, co-founder of Meteroid. I’ll be honest: I’m quite nervous as we’re gearing up for our first PH launch next Thursday (Jan 29th), and the imposter syndrome is hitting hard.
Â
We were actually supposed to launch two weeks ago. But at the very last moment (a few minutes before launch), I hit the cancel button. Looking at our launch page, it just didn't feel like us so we trashed the whole draft (I don't even know if we can call it a "draft" since it was literally supposed to be our launch at that point…) and started over to talk plainly about why we’re doing this.
Â
The "Why" is about frustration. The billing space is huge, yet the pattern is always the same: powerful features gated behind "talk to sales" banners and 5-figure contracts. Early teams are stuck with rigid, duct-taped systems that can’t evolve. We wanted to flip that. Meteroid is built on a simple idea: advanced billing should be accessible from day one, not a Series B "upgrade".
Â
To turn this philosophy into reality, we built Meteroid: an open-source monetization platform (900+ stars on GitHub! 🚀) that gives SaaS the power to swap pricing models (subscription, usage, hybrid) and GTM strategies in minutes. I’m both excited and terrified to finally show it to you in 2 days. We'll be live here.
Â
Can't wait to meet you all!
