Designers who build, how have you been utilizing AI assisted coding?

I don't start my design in figma anymore.

When I’m designing an MVP or new feature, I just:

  • Setup a Next.js project

  • Grab base components from shadcndesign.com

  • Build with Windsurf

  • Integrate PostHog + push to GitHub

  • Deploy on Vercel

Then I share the live link with the team or early users, watch how people actually use it, fix anything confusing, and only polish once the flow feels right.

It’s been saving me months compared to the old “design → align → hand off → develop → test” loop.

Any other designers out here who’ve started building directly? Would love to trade notes and tools

I have been adopting this new method but instead using low/no code builders like base44 etc. I find that the art is in engineering the initial prompts to get as close to the MVP as possible.
