Hi everyone!
Iβve spent the last few months building www.thecanadalist.ca β a searchable database of over 6000 products that are ranked based on how much they actually support the Canadian economy.
It started with my own frustration trying to figure out which brands were actually Canadian-owned/made, because it's not as easy as it seems!
* Canadian products are often lesser known
* 'Canada' tags in the stores, while admirable, are often inaccurate
* And every major brand is slapping maple leaves on their products, in an attempt to confuse shoppers and 'appear Canadian'
TheCanadaList.ca aims to break through the fluff and give consumers the tools they need to shop smarter. Instead of just saying "yes/no" to the question "Is it Canadian?", we assign each product a 'CANADA Score' (from 1β10) based on who owns it, who makes it, where materials/ingredients are sourced, and how many Canadian jobs it supports. So you get a very nuanced indication of how much the product/brand is really contributing to the Canadian economy.
We've also added advanced filters, so that users can choose:
* Only 100% Canadian owned/made products
* Only products not owned/made in the US <--- this one is becoming a user favourite π€·ββοΈ
Over the coming weeks, we intend to:
* Build out the product list further
* Further validate/clean the list, to ensure accuracy
* Increase the site's mobile-readiness (though it's tough to mobile-ready a table
* Add additional features to make shopping Canadian as frictionless as possible
Please check it out and let us know what you think!
Thanks! π
