👋 Hey everyone, I’m Nikola, co-founder and CEO of Howitzer 👣 How we got here We built Howitzer trying to solve our own problem - marketing our previous startup on Reddit. In the summer of 2020, we were a team of three college students, trying to advertise our (now) previous startup. Being long-time Redditors, the community was our first choice as an acquisition channel. Our ideal customers were a group of 1.3 million people active across multiple subreddits, discussing about their problems and needs on a daily basis. Our application solved their problems and addressed their needs. We just needed them to see us. We thought running Reddit Ads would be our jackpot. When we tried running our first Reddit Ad, we failed. We were spending money but had ZERO conversions. Organically promoting our application wasn’t successful either, as everything we posted or commented on was classified as ‘self-promotion’ and was being deleted. All of our accounts got banned from those subreddits. Our ideal customers were in front of us - 1.3 million people talking about the problems and needs that our application addressed, but we weren’t able to reach them. That’s when we decided to think outside of the box. We wrote a simple script that scraped all of the Redditors that mentioned keywords related to our application and sent them Reddit messages initiating a conversation. When they replied, we continued the conversation and started converting them into customers. In less than 14 days, we had 2000+ downloads. It was nuts. We decided to ditch the application and turn our simple script into a full product. We code-named it ‘Howitzer’, as a playful reference to the Netflix show - ‘Suits’.

Howitzer has anti-spamming mechanisms built into the platform with more on our roadmap. @antiquesdecor You can spam on almost any platform using any marketing tool. With Howitzer, you're not supposed to do cold blind outreach. You're supposed to target people who talk about problems you have a solution for. Yes, its outbound marketing, but not as cold as you'd think. I've used Howitzer in the past and speaking from experience.

Howitzer allows you to search for people who mentioned specific keywords in a specific subreddits in a specific time period, and builds a list of all of the Redditors that match your search criteria. Once you have that list, you can write a message, and Howitzer will personalize and deliver that message to all of your prospects. And finally, you'll get some replies on those messages that you can answer to and handle inside our platform. Basically, imagine it as 'LinkedIn Sales Navigator, but for Reddit'. Plus the option to contact your prospects, and handle those conversations in a built-in CRM for Reddit.

@muskan_thakur Hi Muskan, thanks for the question. Yes you can say that Howitzer has a feature that is sort of like a search engine for Reddit. What Howitzer allows you to do is specify what you customers are talking about and which communities (subreddits) they are a part of. Howitzer then finds these users based on some conditions you specify and allows you to reach out to them via the Reddit DMs. After this conversations can be continued inside Howitzer in our built-in inbox for Reddit. Wow! Having a product like this for Reddit is genius. I've tried similar products for Linkedin and had seen amazing results coming from it. I'm curious to know how the Spamming function works for Reddit. Will it block me like LI does if I send too many automated messages.

@angrezi_ Hi Nitesh, thank you for your kind words. Regarding your question, yes Reddit does have detection for spamming, which is good. We don't want our tool to be used for spamming so we are working on a similar detection as well. We are also working on educating our users on how to find users who show genuine interest in their product and how to compose messages that builds a connection with their prospects and provides some value instead of just sending out anything, If you are worried about Reddit accounts, you don't need to worry since we provide high-karma Reddit accounts in the background of Howitzer with all our plans. So you don't need to setup accounts or VPNs or anything else.

Let me know what you think of it once you try it! :) Right now, you can target users by mentioned keywords, subreddits, positive/negative sentiment and time period. In the near future we plan to add options for targeting by post flair, karma points and experiment with location and gender prediction.
