👋Hi Product Hunters, I’m Steven, co-founder of AirCare alongside @bloudermilk. Last year we independently woke up to the climate emergency facing our planet. Months later we happened to meet in https://techimpactmakers.com, and decided to work on a project together as part of https://fixathon.io. Our main goal was to make it ridiculously easy for anyone to understand the climate impact of flying. We’ve all seen metrics like “Tonnes of CO2” but it’s hard for the average person to put that into perspective. AirCare brings clarity to carbon – here’s how it works: - Forward your flight booking email to impact@air.care or manually enter flights on https://air.care - Check your inbox for your climate impact report detailing the estimated carbon emissions and how much Arctic sea ice is likely to have melted as a result. - Compensate by purchasing a Gold Standard carbon offset for your air travel or review alternative travel methods should you wish to reconsider flying. Since launching we’ve also partnered with tech events who offset their speaker’s air travel and raised awareness of the climate emergency among their attendees. We provide these events with their own custom page to send to their attendees amongst other benefits. Hi there, Hunters! I created AirCare with @shylands last year as part of the international climate Fixathon. The idea to build a carbon offset tool came to me after learning more about my carbon footprint and realizing how much of an impact my air travel had on the environment. I had already made some significant changes to reduce my impact from travel, but being from the US and living in Europe meant I still needed to take a couple of transatlantic flights each year. AirCare was built with the idea of making it as easy as possible to purchase a high-quality carbon offset for flights. We did a ton of research and learned that Gold Standard offsets have the best reputation for being effective. Then we designed the automatic email-based impact reports that set us apart from other offset tools out there. I was responsible for developing the backend and some of the interactive components. I absolutely love I, but then of course I would! We're rebooting development, and are really keen to hear people's ideas for how we can make the service better, or extend it. We were thinking about ideas to allow really quick calculations (and avoidance ideas) for every day climate impact (like mobile phones, car trips and food). All ideas and feedback appreciated
