Akshar is a keyboard for iPhone that transliterates English typing into 15 Indian language scripts in real time. Type "namaste" and see नमस्ते. Switch between Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla, and 9 more languages from the keyboard toolbar. No globe-hopping, no new layouts to learn. Includes a built-in editor with up to 10 suggestions per word, auto-save, history, and iCloud sync. No ads. No tracking. No subscription. Free.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm Krishna, and I built Akshar because typing in Indian languages on iPhone has always felt like a compromise.
Apple's built-in keyboard only lets you pair two Indian languages with English and supports 11 Indic languages overall. Gboard buries transliteration under a pile of extra features. The other third-party keyboards feel outdated, have ads, or collect your data.
I wanted one clean keyboard where I type in English and get it in my script. So I built one.
Akshar supports 15 languages: Hindi, Bangla, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Urdu, Odia, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Assamese, Nepali, Sanskrit, and Sinhala. You switch between them right from the keyboard toolbar.
A few things I focused on:
- Real-time transliteration with up to 6 suggestions in the keyboard
- A built-in editor with 10 suggestions per word for longer writing
- Privacy: text goes to Google Input Tools API only for transliteration, nothing is stored
- Native feel: built with SwiftUI, follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
- iCloud sync across iPhone and iPad
It's completely free. No ads, no paywalls, no subscriptions. Made with love for the Indian language community.
Would love your feedback. Which Indian languages do you type in? What would make this better for you?
