Hi Product Hunt, I built BlurOut after doing the same stupid thing twice: sharing a screenshot of a conversation, and only noticing the phone number in the corner after I had sent it. Every blur app I tried had one of three problems. The blur was cosmetic and came back when you zoomed in. The export destroyed the image, dropping the resolution or turning a PNG into a JPEG. Or the app wanted network access, which is an odd thing for a privacy tool to ask for. So BlurOut does three things differently. It reads its own work back. After you export, it re-opens the file it just wrote, runs detection on it again, and tells you whether anything is still legible. This is the part I care about most: an app that promises to hide things should be able to prove it did. It cannot talk to the network. The INTERNET permission is not just unused, it is removed from the manifest, so the app is technically incapable of opening a connection. You can check that yourself on the Play listing before you install. It leaves your image alone. Full resolution, original format, and every pixel outside the masked areas is identical to the source. EXIF metadata is dropped on the way out. Detection runs on device and looks for card numbers, IBANs, passwords, verification codes, phone numbers, emails, addresses and faces. Two taps and they are covered. If you prefer to place masks yourself, there is real zoom, resizable areas, crop, and unlimited undo and redo. One thing worth saying plainly: a light blur can be reversed, and BlurOut will warn you when a setting is too weak rather than let you ship something that looks safe. The safe pixelation mode destroys the information instead of scrambling it. It is free, with no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchase and no watermark. Android 10 and up. I would genuinely like to hear where the detection misses things. It is the part with the most room left in it, and real screenshots from real people are worth more than anything I can synthesise.
