Crates earns raves for unifying scattered music into one organized space and making collection management feel fast and intuitive. Reviewers praise reliable imports from services like Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube, SoundCloud, and Discogs, with strong metadata, artwork handling, and smooth cross‑app playlist building. DJs highlight easy USB export and gig prep. Users love the clean UI, browser add‑on for saving tracks, and discovery via shared Gems without algorithmic noise. Some ask for Android support. Overall, it’s celebrated for control, simplicity, and daily dependability.
the app looks good!
how can we discover new music if we don’t have the files?
Crates
@khdj thanks for the question!
1) How to easily add music in Crates without having the files
There are many ways to do this:
a) At the desktop app, use the "Online Search" box (top right) to search music in connected services (Bandcamp, youtube, apple music supported for now)
b) Drag n drop supported urls from bandcamp, youtube, discogs, apple music and spotify and it will be added in Crates.
c) Use the crates browser extension (some have called it Pinterest for Music)
2) Discovery
Right now, the main discovery feature is "Gems" (currently available to Supporters only).
Crates users can share music they think it's worth to be discovered by other users, for specific tags.
When you open your Gems feed, you can listen and discover great music recommended by the community! The more you interact (upvote/downvote gems) the more suitable gems you get in your feed.
Some users also facilitate discovery by browsing their favorite artists and labels and easily navigating to other services to get more music, which they then import in Crates with b and c above.
We plan to add more discovery features like curated playlists soon!

This is the first music tool I’ve seen that truly gets how scattered and personal music collecting can be. Love the “stream what you’re curious about, keep what you love” philosophy. Using it already.
nice tool. Just installed it, smooth work. 10/10
